Large cents are a series of U.S. one-cent coins minted from 1793 to 1857, known for their large size and composition of nearly pure copper. They are distinguished by several design types, such as the Liberty Cap, Draped Bust, and Braided Hair, all featuring a portrait of Lady Liberty on the obverse and a wreath or other design on the reverse. Due to the rising cost of copper and their bulky size, they were replaced by the smaller Flying Eagle Cent in 1857.
