The United States two-cent coin, also known as the Shield Two Cent, was minted from 1864 to 1873:
Obverse: Features a shield with 13 vertical stripes, or "paleways", representing the original 13 states. The shield's upper part, or "chief", symbolizes Congress. The coin also includes crossed arrows to represent nonaggression and readiness for attack, and laurel branches to symbolize victory. The escutcheon is colored red, white, and blue to evoke the American flag.
Reverse: Features the denomination "2 CENTS" within a wheat wreath, and the name of the country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", wraps around the rest of the coin.
Motto: The first two-cent coin to feature the US motto, "In God We Trust".
